I’m Staying!

I’m Staying!
October 9 2007

GENERAL HOSPITAL’S Kelly Monaco (Sam) has been the talk of the town. Assumptions have been flying every which way that she was packing up her dressing room and heading out to take Hollywood by storm. While that might sound exciting to some actors with flourishing careers, no so for Monaco. “I’ve decided to stay here with my family,” she says of her GH friends, “I was miserable trying to convince myself that I should leave. Thats when I sat own with the people who are most important to me and said, ‘[Staying] is what’s going to make me happy.”

“I Went For Happiness”
Monaco found herself at that poing in her career at GH where she was at a plateau. As she puts it, she could “jump off and swim with the sharks and leave GH, or stay and continue to d what I love every single day.”

“It’s just unbelieveable,” says new father Greg Vaughan (lucky, GH), who is one Cloud Nine over
the birth of his son, Jathan James. Vaughan was with his bride, Dutch model Touriya Haoud, every step of the way and didn’t leave her side for a moment. “When she said, ‘Greg, I think my waterbroke!’ I felt like my water had broken because of the adrenaline rush,” he jokes. “It was, ‘All right! We’re havin’ a baby!”

Like Father, Like Son

Luke and Lucky’s father/son animosty has only grown through the years. But when it comes to
the Spencer men’s portrayers,  GENERAL HOSPITAL’S Greg Vaughan and Anthony Geary, there is
no compairison. Unlike their soap counterparts, the actors are quick to  voice their sincere
mutal admiration and appreciation of for the other. We sat down with them to find our their hopes
and wishes for the future of Luke and Lucky’s relationship. Heres a hint: Think, as Geary puts
it, “two rouges on the prowl.”

When Will Lucky Get A Break?

SOAPS IN DEPTH: What are your thoughts about how Lucky has been written since Greg has come on board?

ANTHONEY GEARY: I think he’s been overlooked and given a bit of a raw deal. But I think we’re
crawling of it. That was only because attention was elsewhere. I think Greg brings a lot to the
party. They’re just beginning to see what’s uniquely him.

In Defense of the Other Woman

In Defense of the Other Woman

Sam McCall is playing with fire. First, the GENERAL HOSPITAL heroine betrayed
the already unlucky-in-love Jax. Then, she bedded Sonny, driving the final nail
nail into his dying marriage to Carly. Toying with the hearts of two of Port Charles’ most adored
leading men isn’t exactly the best way to win fans, and Sam’s portrayer, Kelly Monaco, knows it.
Hoping to open up a few minds about her character’s true motives, she beseeches the viewers, “Look deeper than her surface. There is so much more underneath that explains why she does what she does.”

Sam’s Big Plan Revealed
When Sam first surfaced, she was a free-spirited broad who didn’t need anybody — or so we thought. But since taking up with Sonny, she’s been revealed as the exact opposite. “You can see the layers unfolding with this girl,” says Monaco. “She puts up a facade. In my exprience, most people who act strong and tough and brave are the most wounded people. And thats how I see Sam. Nothing goes her way. Nothing but failure, and mistakes and people hating her. There have been a few indviduals who didn’t judge her from the start. She can’t open her mouth because they’ve already got pre-convieved ideas about her. It’s an extremly lonely place to be.”

More than just a pretty face

More than Just A Pretty Face

What is beautiful to you?
Beautiful to me is what’s on the inside, behind the soul of your eyes.

What feature do most people compliment you on?
My eyebrows. I have very defined eyebrows. I don’t ever get them plucked
or waxed or anything. If I were to give you pictures of me from the second
grade, these are my eyebrows. They’ve always been the same. I’ve been
blessed with good eyebrows!

Lucky Stiff

Lucky Stiff

His one potential love intrest flew the coop; his new job has already gotten
him in enough hot water to fill the Grand Canyon; and, in his fathers eyes ,
he’s a failure of epic proportions. Yet Greg Vaughan, who plays GENERAL HOSPITALS
Lucky, sees his glass not as not as half full or half empty, but as overflowing…
with possiblities! “Lucky needs to experience something new and fresh and exciting,”
he says. “The kind of girl getting off the bus, dropping her bag and stumbling across
this small town. And then they’d just bump into each other accidentally. Fate would
take over.”

Although romantic history was made between Lucky and old flame Liz, she has moved on
wth her life. Now it’s time for Lucky to do the same. “What was established with
Johnathon Jackson is gone. He created it, he took it with him. Jacob Young came in, and
he had done something that was kind of like a sequeal that was played out longer than
it needed to be. I, Greg, want to add a jolt o f energy, and feel like I’ve created something
that was for me.”

On the Flip Side

On The Flip Side
December 10 2002

Sometimes it’s hard enough just walking in one’s own shoes…keeping up with the schedules,
the demands, the relationships. But for Kelly Monaco, that almost sounds easy! For the last
four months, she’s been living her own life, plus that of two characters she play’s on PORT
CHARLES, Livvie and Tess.

“It’s such an incredible opportunity,” she enthuses. “I extremlly flattered, excited and
scared all at the same time. It’s such an awesome experience!”

Having taken Livvie down the wicked road of villany all year, portraying Tess’ innocence
was a welcome change. “People didn’t quite understand where Livvie’s venom was coming from,
but now that the storyline has conincded with her behavior, they’re going, ‘Wow she’s really
good because we hate her!” Monaco offers, glad that fans are understanding. “Especially with
the soft side of Tess coming in, it’s something the fans haven’t seen me play in such a long
time. It’s like, ‘Oh my God, I feel for this character because she’s so vulnerable and sweet
and lovely.’ So they’re getting both sides of the spectrum.”

So Many Men…
One of the fringe benefits of portraying Tess’ storyline was getting to share screen time with
Brian Presley (Jack), who plays her protector. “It’s wonderful working with Brian again. We
missed each other as actors because for the last year [of storylines] we didn’t get to do
anything but tell each other off,” Monaco recalls. “There was always a nice on-screen chemistry
between the two of us, and it shows with Tess as well. I think the two of them are a really sweet couple.”

Of course, the oposite of all that sugar and spice is Livvie’s relationship with the vampire
she once married. For Monaco, it means having another leading man in Micahel Easton (ex-Caleb; now Stephen).
“Livvie awill always want Jack back, but her focus and attention are on Caleb at this point–
or who she thinks is Caleb,” Monaco observes.”She feels that he is her soulmate and that her love
and compassion for his evil ways is what brought him back.”
